After School-Program

Interested families who are not currently part of the Summerhill community are also welcome to join our after-school program.

At Summerhill, we have an exciting range of after-school programs that are open to both our full-time students and the public at large.

Our after-school activities are open to all PYP children ages 3-6 years old. These thoughtfully designed programs give children the opportunity to explore and discover new interests in a fun, engaging environment. With classes spanning Cooking, Gardening, Photography, Phonics, Dance, and Physical Fitness, and more – there’s something for every curious mind.

To support well-rounded development, our offerings are organized into three main categories: Academic, Artistic, and Physical. This selection along with a balanced schedule allows each child to engage in a mix of activities that nurture both their bodies and minds.

While priority enrollment is given to our students, our diverse range of clubs is open to all children who would like to take part—whether or not they are currently enrolled at Summerhill. The Programs

Chigirie

In this creative class, children explore the Japanese art of chigirie — making beautiful pictures with torn colored paper. Little artists tear, arrange, and layer soft pieces to form flowers, animals, and imaginative scenes. The class nurtures creativity, patience, and self-expression, while giving kids the joy of transforming paper into art.

Little Gardeners Club

Little Gardeners is a joyful club where kids connect with nature right in our backyard garden. Through planting, digging, watering, and exploring, children learn about plants, seasons, and where food comes from—all in a fun, hands-on environment that nurtures curiosity and care for the earth.

Photography

In this class kids will learn the basics of photography—from framing and lighting to storytelling through pictures. Using simple tools and plenty of imagination, children will capture moments, explore their surroundings, and express themselves visually. This club encourages observation, creativity, and confidence. Piano Class

Our children’s piano class introduces young musicians to the wonderful world of music. In this class, children will learn basic finger drills, develop an understanding of rhythm, and build essential piano skills in a fun and engaging way. Kids will explore melodies, rhythms, and harmonies, laying a strong musical foundation while fostering a love for playing the piano.

Ukulele

Nurture your child’s love for music and instruments through the cheerful sounds of the ukulele! Led by talented instructors from Minim Music, this fun and engaging club introduces children to basic chords, strumming patterns, and simple songs in a playful, supportive environment. Kids will build musical confidence, improve coordination, and enjoy making music together as a group.

Cooking Class

In our children's cooking class, young chefs will embark on a culinary adventure where they will learn how to use cooking utensils safely, try new foods, and experience a variety of ingredients and flavors. Through hands-on activities, kids will discover the joys of cooking, develop important kitchen skills, and gain confidence in preparing simple, delicious dishes. Art Club

In our dynamic children's art class, young artists will explore a world of creativity through a variety of hands-on projects. From creating vibrant collages and clay models to crafting imaginative sculptures, DIY toys, and recycled art, each session is designed to inspire and engage. This class promotes a fun and nurturing environment where kids can experiment with different materials and techniques, express themselves freely, and bring their wildest ideas to life. Book Club

Our children's book club is designed especially for young children as they learn to enjoy the magic of stories. Each week, we feature a new book that we explore together through fun crafts, interactive activities, and engaging games. Even if your child is just beginning to recognize letters and sounds, our class brings stories to life in a way that encourages imagination and creativity. Phonics

Our beginner phonics class is designed to help young learners develop a strong foundation in phonics. Through fun and interactive lessons, children will learn the sounds of letters, blend sounds to form words, and build essential early reading skills. Tsubaki Class (Japanese Class)

Our children's Tsubaki Class offers a unique and interactive way for kids to learn about Japan. Through engaging activities, children will explore the basics of the Japanese language, experience traditional customs, and discover the rich culture of Japan. From learning simple phrases and songs to participating in fun cultural games and crafts, this class provides a lively and immersive experience that encourages curiosity and appreciation for a new language and culture. Science & Math

Our Children’s Science & Math Club is an exciting adventure into discovery, exploration, and problem-solving. With hands-on experiments, fun activities, and engaging lessons, kids explore science and math in a playful, interactive environment that sparks curiosity and builds a love for learning.

Primary Prep Club

Exclusively for our K5 students, Primary Prep Club supports children as they take the next step toward primary school. This class focuses on building academic confidence, strengthening foundational skills, and supporting students' upcoming transition to primary school all through engaging, age-appropriate lessons and activities.

Listening and Speaking in English

This club helps children build confidence and communication skills through fun, interactive English language activities. Through songs, stories, games, and conversations, kids will practice everyday vocabulary, improve pronunciation, and strengthen their listening and speaking skills.

Japanese

In this immersive after-school class, students will explore core academic subjects such as math, writing, all taught in Japanese. Building on the structure of our Tsubaki language class, Academics in Japanese goes a step further by integrating traditional Japanese customs, manners, speaking and classroom routines. This program is perfect for students ready to deepen their understanding of both the language and culture through engaging, age-appropriate academic content.

Ballet

Our children's ballet class offers a fun and engaging introduction to the world of dance. Designed for youngsters , this class combines basic ballet techniques with creative movement exercises to develop coordination, flexibility, and rhythm. Taught by experienced teacher Joanna, our classes provide a supportive and encouraging environment where children can build confidence, express themselves. Creative Dance

Our children's Creative Dance class is all about fun, energy, and creativity! Kids will learn lively dance routines, play exciting movement games, and explore the world of rhythm in a joyful and supportive environment. Guided by experienced dancer teacher Joanna, children will develop coordination, balance, and confidence while expressing themselves through dance and movement. Kids Yoga

Our children’s yoga class offers a delightful introduction to yoga through playful poses, fun exercises, and calming activities. Outdoor Fitness & Fun

ur Outdoor Fitness and Fun class is the perfect way for kids to enjoy the great outdoors while staying active and healthy.
